The story of Otto:
Otto the Bear has greeted guests at the entrance to the Gallery of Alaska since the exhibit opened in 1980. Museum staff named him in honor of Otto Geist, who developed the first collections for the university. That initial acquisition has grown to more than 2.5 million objects.
